Gaining Ground Mentorship and Wellbeing Club Application

Football West are excited to be working with Gaining Ground to deliver a Wellbeing and Mentorship Project to Club Changer Clubs. This opportunity will be open to all clubs that have junior girls teams aged 12 - 14 and will be an application based. Applications will be assessed by a panel comprised of Football West and Gaining Ground members, and 10 clubs will be selected for the project. Gaining Ground will deliver a tailored workshop to each of these clubs focused on wellbeing and mentorship. The workshops will be 90 minutes in length and broken into two parts as outlined below:

Part 1: Introduce Gaining Ground to key stakeholders within the club, Presidents, Coaches, Volunteers and Women and Girls Coordinators. Gaining Ground will present on the importance of mentorship, role modelling and connection. This will be a time for open discussion around challenges that the Clubs face for Women and Girls and how Gaining Ground can provide insights into how they can support clubs and players. This session will be 45 minutes in length and 5-6 members of the club are invited to participate.

Part 2: This session will be delivered to the junior players. Players must be girls aged 12 – 14 and is open to up to 30 participants (2 x teams) from the club to take part in a workshop. This session will be focused on building leadership capacity by encouraging positive communication, confidence and mindset, and includes 1-2 activities with tools that clubs, coaches, and players can implement on their own, as well as takeaway resources and contacts. This will be done by via group work and activities. This session will be 45 minutes in length.

The goal of Gaining Ground is to support women and girls to lead and thrive, on and off the pitch. Since 2020, Gaining Ground have been improving the wellbeing of women and girls playing football. Gaining Ground supports players, clubs and coaches with tools and resources to build confident, emotionally-intelligent women and girls who become role models, coaches, and leaders in the game and in their communities. The Gaining Ground team of players and coaches, entrepreneurs, professional communicators, psychologists, sports lecturers and educators, and community engagement officers using our lived experiences to build a better future for women and girls in sport
